Patrick M. Maloney represents clients in business disputes. He has served as trial counsel in numerous matters in state and federal courts and in arbitration. Mr. Maloney has represented companies in antitrust and patent matters, shareholder and partnership disputes, employment disputes, and in disputes between clients and lawyers in malpractice, fiduciary duty claims, and fee disputes.
As a staunch advocate of fair billing practices, Mr. Maloney regularly works with clients to resolve fee disputes with outside counsel arising from bill padding, fraud and other overcharges. In recent years, he has represented more than two dozen clients in disputes with their former lawyers over invoices for legal services, saving them millions in legal fees. Mr. Maloney is also a volunteer fee dispute arbitrator with the Los Angeles County Bar Association and has completed the bar association’s fee dispute arbitrator training program.
Mr. Maloney has been named a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, a trial lawyer honorary society composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. Martindale Hubbell awarded Mr. Maloney with an AV-Preeminent rating, the highest possible rating for both legal ability and ethical standards. In addition, he is currently recognized as a Super Lawyer by the publishers of Los Angeles Magazine, and had been a Rising Star – an award given to just 2.5 % of attorneys who have been in practice for ten years or less – for four consecutive years starting in 2005.
Mr. Maloney serves on the Board of Directors of the South Bay Bar Association and is a member of the Hon. Benjamin Aranda III Inn of Court. When not in the courtroom or volunteering, Mr. Maloney enjoys spending time with his family, gardening, fishing and boating. He currently resides in the South Bay with his wife and two children.
